I start every day the same way:

Snuggle

My alarm goes off and I immediately hit the snooze button and use that 10 minutes to snuggle with my husband (or my puppy if the husband had to go to work early)

Prayer

Morning meditations and prayer prior to even getting out of bed. I thank God for my family health and wellness as well as contemplate why I am one of the most blessed people in the world. If these kinds of prayers are difficult for you, then start with a morning mantra while your eyes are still closed. Things like, “I am going to have an amazing day!” or “I am going to get everything done successfully that I set out to do.” Even, “I am amazing, and the whole world is going to see it today!”

Hydration

I get out of bed and head straight to the kitchen (after the requisite potty stop) and drink at least 16 ounces of water. You really should be drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water each day. We all wake up dehydrated – worse if we were drinking wine the night before! If you aren’t a fan of just plain water, put a few drops of lemon or lime juice to give it a little flavor.

Exercise

Don’t tell me you don’t have time. That’s why God made 5:30am! Seriously, get up 15-30 minutes earlier. After just a few days I promise it will be easy. You don’t need to do a huge workout, just get your heart rate up and blood pumping. It revs up the metabolism and makes you feel alive! A 3mile run, a 30-minute ride on your Peloton bike, a 20-minute weight workout, heck, even 10 minutes of burpees and jumping jacks will do it!

Planning

I take 15 minutes, while I’m drinking my coffee, eating my breakfast, and listening to Sports Center (yes, I’m a sports junkie), to plan my day. I review my to-do list and put time blocks along where I’m going to get things done. I often add and subtract when my day is not being realistic. I also give myself deadlines to either get it done or move on to the next task and complete another day. I have a to-do list that is constantly changing, so I also often decide that I don’t have to do whatever the task is and delegate to someone else on my team or in my family. It is important to plan your day so you can see how much you have accomplished, knowing you did something even on our laziest days.

Shower Time!

And now my well planned day starts…..

Tips on having a really great start to your day:

  1. Get up early, before the rest of the family, so you have at least an hour of your day all to yourself.
  2. Put your workout clothes and shoes right next to the bed so you have to trip over them going to the bathroom.
  3. Focus on your breathing while exercising. It focuses your mind on something other than the fact you think you might be dying.
  4. Please, please never skip breakfast. I know that intermittent fasting is a big thing, but you need fuel. I personally eat flax seed granola with blueberries and rice milk pretty much every day. We will chat about breakfast choices in another blog.
  5. Have your to-do list from the day before, as well as all the additions and deletions ready to go right where you eat your breakfast. Be organized with your time blocks and you will be amazed how much you will accomplish!
  6. Lastly, do not open your email, Instagram or Facebook before you have gone through all the other steps. Your quiet morning time is not for social media. You can look at that after getting the kids up or just before you’re off to your office or errands.

You really can choose to have a great day every day. Happiness is a choice! Choose to be Fit, Fifty and Fabulous with me!
